Did not really rate this hotel. First off they couldn't find my booking . The night reception said they would leave a note with the day-shift to sort out - no notes were left when I checked if everything was ok the next morning, had to spend another 1/2 hour for them to sort it out. First room the safe did not work or the plugs to charge up my equipment. Also the room was on the 3rd floor and the traffic outside could easily be heard. Then asked for a change of room and was offered a room on the 2nd floor - which I declined due to the traffic noise. I was told I could upgrade #for an additional £30/night# to a family room on the 6th floor. This was much better. I was then overcharged by an additional night and had to spend yet some more time sorting this out at reception. The room had a fantastic view #NOT# overlooking the Gateway Shopping centre. The only real positive I could say was that the shower was wonderful. The price for the breakfast for what it was , was overpriced. Extra was charged for the parking. The location next to the Gateway #although not a pleasant view) was useful as plentiy of restaurants to choose from and plenty of shops. The local area of Umhlanga was spotless and not a plastic packet anywhere to be seen. Also the are felt a lot more secure than central Durban or Toti where I have stayed previously
