"We had a fabulous stay at the New World Resort Phu Quoc. Pros: The beach is absolutely stunning and the villas are gorgeous. The breakfast buffet was incredible, we loved that it was slightly different every day. Happy hour is good value and generally all of the staff are eager to please. Cons: Food and drink prices are very expensive for Vietnam, almost on London levels which was a shock after travelling here from a 5 star hotel in Hoi An where spa/food/drinks prices were roughly half those here. Too many rules - e.g. bikes can’t be taken outside the property. Why not? At other hotels we stayed at on our trip they could be taken anywhere, where the roads were far less quiet! My husband got chased down the road by security. Likewise towels could not be taken further along the beach etc. There was no flexibility either, e.g. we had half an hour to kill before we could check in so our children wanted to use the giant pool flamingo for 30 mins, but the staff were adamant we had to pay for an hour and it was not possible to pay half for the time we actually wanted to use it. No outside food allowed to be taken into bills etc etc. These little niggles were quite irritating and don’t make for a relaxing holiday. However, we still loved the hotel and really enjoyed our stay."
