Liberia, 14 miles to the east, is a great little excursion You can use it as a base when stopping by La Agonía, Iglesia Inmaculada Concepción de María and the Museo de Guanacaste. If you need more persuading, other nearby sights include Parque Nacional Rincón de la Vieja and the Africa Mía.
