The Trevi Fountain is the largest Baroque fountain in Italy and is a popular destination for travelers worldwide. Each day, 80,000 cubic metres of water course through this stunning fountain. Made from travertine and carrara marble, this fountain features Oceanus (the god of all water), carved by Pietro Bracci, in the central niche of the piece. Refurbished in 1998, the fountain is more popular than ever with tourists. Yet another restoration project began in 2013.
Dating back to 1629, the fountain has undergone numerous renovations and refurbishments. Various designers and artisans were involved in what is today’s Trevi Fountain. Rich in history and beauty, the Trevi Fountain is said to assure a return visit to Rome to those who toss a coin over their left shoulder into its waters. The Roman Catholic charity Caritas cleans the fountain of thousands of international coins each day during a one-hour period of closure. For a nice break from the throngs at the fountain, The Santi Vincenzo e Anastasio a Trevi is a nice place to rest, separate from the crowds at the fountain, but still quite close.
