There’s no need to chase the sun in Lanzarote: it’s summer all day, every day in the Canaries’ isle of gold and black. Those flying to Lanzarote can enjoy more than lounging on the island’s soft sand, however. After booking your flights to Lazarote, you cna enjoy the thrills and spills on the water, and the magic when snorkelling beneath it. Wonders await in hidden lava houses, or atop simmering volcanic cones. Then light the touch-paper for fiesta-filled nights that snap and crackle with real Spanish sparkle.
Lanzarote’s all-year-summer flips the peak season on its head. The busiest time of year can be December or January, when the mercury rarely dips below a cosy 21°C. The bustle picks up again in July and August, especially at festival time. But spring is cool too, with fewer crowds, lots of sun and plenty of fun when Carnival hits town. For cheap tickets to Lanzarote get in early, by booking 8 months beforehand. Or hold your nerve for the best Lanzarote flight deals in winter – you can find some cheap flights to Lanzarote by waiting until 8 weeks before you go.
Lanzarote has always been popular with sun-loving Brits, so there are quite a few options for getting you to your beach lounger. Low-cost carriers Monarch and EasyJet both offer direct flights, taking about 4 hours to get there, as does Thomas Cook. Monarch has non-stop routes from Birmingham and Manchester too. For those flying from Glasgow, British Airways and Iberia offer flights, but stops in Madrid can make for very long journeys. KLM stops in Amsterdam, which is a little quicker at 15 hours, and they also operate from Edinburgh.
Lanzarote Airport (ACE) is tucked between the capital, Arrecife, and the island’s biggest beach resort of Puerto del Carmen. If you’re looking to book return flights to Lanzarote for sun, sea and sand, then your beach paradise could be just a five-minute taxi ride away. A half-hourly shuttle bus from the airport can whisk you to Playa Honda or Arrecife for as little as one euro. If you’re booked into one of Playa Blanca’s up-market villas, €30 will see your taxi driver zipping you to your date with the sun in 30 minutes.
Glittering golden beaches and sparkling warm seas make for mellow days lazing in Lanzarote. But there’s magic on this volcanic island, too. See its fiery side at the Montañas del Fuego, where lava still bubbles beneath the rocks (sandals recommended!). Or check out the fabulously cool chic of the Fundación César Manrique – an artist’s home hollowed out from old lava-bubble caves. The breakers at Caleta de Famara will have the surf-mad yelping with joy, while the submarine reefs off of Playa Blanca will delight with their stunning wildlife shows.
