Beautiful grounds and very well maintained hotel. Location is not so easy to reach without GPS.. Be aware, for clients who have problems with stairs they should request ground floor accommodation. My room was two flights of stairs!! Otherwise extremely good.

Beautiful hotel in lovely grounds

First impressions were so good. The long drive up to the hotel is stunning as is the building itself. We booked 3 rooms - classic, executive and delux. As we wanted a twin - the hotel confirmed that only the executive could be converted. This room was in a different part of the hotel to the other 2 rooms and was a bit dated. Still comfortable and very very big. To be honest there wasn't much difference between the other 2 rooms and they were absolutely lovely.

Nice hotel in lovely grounds

Pros: The decor, grounds and pleasant staff.
Cons: evening meal could be larger or more reasonably priced. I had a tastecard or I would have been disappointed with portion size and I have a small appet
Arrived early but could check in, lovely room with patio door leading to a small table and 2 chairs. meal was lovely however small and expensive. Breakfast was also lovely a buffet with plenty of choice.

Great fancy hotel away from most things

Pros: Serene environment. room was beautiful.
Cons: heating in the room for cold days and nights.
Location: villages are around, restaurants and shops within 5 minutes drive. its really great for a quiet getaway from the hustle
Overall, quick check in, not so difficult to find. but really out of the way. However some good restaurants in the villages around. Room was very well presented. However, could have been warmer for a very cold night. same with the bathroom. floor was very cold as was tiles, could have done with providing some slippers for this. Gym was ok for the hotel. enjoyed running on treadmill watching tv. wifi connection not very good here. Also in the hotel, mobile connection is dicy. Quick check out

Business & Short break

Room not cleaned after first night at all and internet connection kept cutting out every 10 to 15mins. Calls transferred from reception got lost and callers ended up leaving voice messages. Love the Hotel and location but service and internet really let the place down. I've booked here a few times and won't come back again after this trip as it is a repeat of my last stay, I did hope it would be better !

Lovely relaxing break.

Location of hotel lovely and secluded and quiet, and authentic period decor and furnishings provide a perfect relaxing retreat. Room beautifully spacious, and well appointed, albeit one or two things a little tired, perhaps from previous inconsiderate guests! Management should, however, pay a little more attention to the restaurant at breakfast time, as more care should be taken to prevent food becoming unnecessarily spoiled due to lack of attention, including cleanliness of presentation. Also, certain individual members of Bar staff should be better educated regarding 'British' manners, to avoid guests becoming displeased with their attitude! However, this problem would not deter me from returning to what was otherwise a lovely quiet and comfortable hotel.

On arrival we had booked a queen room, only to be informed by the reception staff they had no queens. Instead they reserved a twin for my fiance and I, however once i showed them the email from e bookers they quickly and with no quibles changed the room to a large double. The room itself was out of this world, they have oversized double beds making your nights stay more comfortable. The size of the room is unbelievable with high ceilings and a flat 32 inch tv for your enjoyment. The grounds surrounding Down Hall are absolutely beautiful, we did not have enough time to peruse the grounds, however take some time to have a look. The house is steeped in history, it was built originally in around the 1500's and through all the years passed many hands of lords and lady's
