Lovely hotel... shame front of house was so frosty on departure. Not a smile, thank you or any pleasantries whatsoever. Other than that a great stay.

It’s a really attractive location, great amenities, and pricing would be fair ........ but it has some glaring issues, certainly for guests staying at the same time of us. Check-in not exactly a warm welcome, closer to a “name?” “This is your room how to get there and where breakfast is” no warmth, not rushed or stressed, no explanation of facilities and looking back should have read the cue! There was a wedding on as we checked in, cute, but it’s a nice location for it. Standard Twin room, ok room facilities, clean, spacious enough, ok bed, did what it said on the tin, shower had low pressure but ok at best. Returned to room night one after evening out the earlier cute wedding was full on party mode, directly beneath our room. All corridor doors pinned opened downstairs as the music and beat banged on throughout the hotel until 10 past midnight. Not a restful nights sleep. Pre- Breakfast next day asked why not warned about the party zone room, no explanation, no offer of moved room. Breakfast quality was substandard, pay extra for some standards, frozen sausages, served coffee in pot at table, in a tea pot, tea in a coffee pot, but the quality of the coffee was appalling. Friendly young girl directing the breakfast hall only plus, but one of the young males attending the buffet had a serious body odour issue, noticed by many diners, not great in morning. Left for a day out disappointed with stay to date, returned in evening for night 2, yet another full p

Food was very good for evening meal and adequate at breakfast. However, service was very slow in the evening (buffet at breakfast). Staff were friendly but stilted for any conversation. Unfortunately my wife got a piece of glass in her foot whilst in our room and other pieces and objects were found on searching around. The response at reception was a very bland “sorry” and was not mentioned later when we checked out. Not really 4 star standards I’m afraid.

The whole experience was quite poor. The bathroom grout was mouldy, the plug hole didn’t drain freely so the water was mid calf during a shower. Having coffee sachets and plastic milk is very dated now and not something I have seen for 8-10years in a hotel of this standard. No bottled water or glasses in the room. Breakfast was a vision from the 80s. No fresh seasonal fruit, no proper cereal..... Dinner and the restaurant evening service was a disgrace. We waited 28mins for our drinks, he to ask for the bottle of water that was then deleicered without glasses. The food was shocking: a tagine that has slow cooked lamb in a sweet brown watery sauce, with bland rather than minted couscous. Average ravioli with little flavour. We waited 58 minutes from our plates being cleared before asking for a pudding menu having spent 20mins attempting to catch somebody’s eye. When we mentioned this no apology was forthcoming. When asked how everything was on leaving the restaurant and checking it of the hotel, we answered “terrible” and simply got “oh sorry” in response. This hotel is 10-20 years out in its approach to style, substance and service.

Country hotel with spa and golf facilities

Had a lovely couple of days relaxing at Aldwark Manor, thoroughly enjoyed the food, scenery and pool facilities during our stay and the staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough to help. The hotel did however seem to be understaffed, there was a cracked window in our room and a chair that had a very poorly repaired tear in the fabric. None of these things impacted on our comfort particularly though so I would happily stay there again
