Nice hotel, lovely staff

The hotel has a grand feel about it but the rooms are slightly tired and in need of a bit of TLC. Staff lovely and helpful.

We chose this hotel because of its location. We were very disappointed by the attitude of the staff. On our arrival we had to wait & when we needed information later on there was no one on the reception desk & no way of summoning anyone. At no time as we passed the reception desk on our way in or out of the hotel did anyone acknowledge us. When we checked out, we were not asked if we had enjoyed our stay. On one occasion I asked about the buses into York which pass the front of the hotel but was told they had no timetables & did not offer to find out for us. On the plus side the beds are very comfortable. The shower was good. The rooms are clean.

Friendly, helpful staff. Good, basic clean room with adequate facilities. Food good but a little pricey. Wine very expensive.

Stayed 1 night for a wedding

Was very pleased with the hotel only a 10min taxi ride out from the wedding location and great breakfast!

Need more staff

Hotel was nice as were the staff, there just wasn't enough of them. Receptionist having to cover the bar after we waited for 5 minutes and although we left it late, (we were there before 12) there was no one in the breakfast room, so we had to settle for cereal and taking spoons from a table set for lunch.

A lovely hotel and staff very helpful

Pros: Everythin
Cons: Need grip rail by the shower for the elderly
Location: Castle Howard, York Minster, the Shambles all very interesting
I would certainly recommend this hotel the staff were lovely

York stopover

Pros: Nice hotel set in extensive grounds, pleasing hall/reception area with plenty of room to grab a drink and relax. Breakfast good with plenty of variety, bacon was the best I have seen for a long time.
Cons: Nothing negative, good value for money hotel within striking distance of York
Location: York has loads to do to include many shops, ghost walks, sightseeing or delving into the local history.

Bit shabby round the edges

Location: Good location for park and ride into York.
Not terrible but hotel needs modernising, restaurant definitely needs better management. Rooms comfortable and clean and reception staff good.
