A bit average!

Staff very friendly and helpful. Room comfortable but not very big. Rather noisy with local traffic and loud calls to prayer from local mosque woke us up very early most mornings. Poor wifi signal and internet access. Breakfast included: cheeses, cold meats, nuts, muesli, dried and fresh fruit, honeycomb, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, local bread, juices, coffee, but after a few days somehow felt a bit boring. Restaurant evening meal not outstanding and much better available locally. Try 'Spectra' restaurant 5 minutes up road near Blue Mosque - had three meals there, all courses of which were very good indeed (cost about 50TL/person for 3 courses+drinks). Hotel within 10 -15 minutes (1st 5 minutes uphill) walking distance of several interesting sites (Blue mosque, Hagia Sophia, Hippodrome, Cistern, Topkapi Palace etc) and good frequent tram link to many interesting parts of city (3 TL token available at tramstops covers any distance). Several groups offer minibus transfers at airport, so don't pre-book, ditto coming back, should be no more than 5 euro/person. If you want Bosporus boat trip don't buy from touts, you can get fraction of price directly from piers near Galata bridge. Look out for 'Namli' restaurant (cross Galata bridge then look in waterfront area on right hand side), outstanding local dishes at reasonable prices. Also in this area you can get wonderful freshly cooked bbq fish sandwiches (6TL).

Convenient, clean and friendly hotel

This small, well appointed hotel seems to be a favourite of academic tour groups. The staff are friendly, the rooms quiet, comfortable and clean and the breakfast buffet excellent. It is very close to the main tourist sites and there are ample local restaurants to choose from. The only significant drawback is the steep cobbled hill on which the hotel sits.

Comfortable

Value for money. My one issue was the climb to your room. Top of the building and no lift. I did ask for a room on a lower level but was informed there were none available. Not sure if this was correct. I would stay here again but only if a room on a lower level can be provided

Pleasant atmosphere at Sultan Ahmed

Above all, staff is very friendly and helpful without being obtrusive or annoying. My room and bathroom were very clean and offered good comfort. The hotel's restaurant and breakfast room is situated within the court and invites to a rest from the busy outside environment. Food was very good. The Blue Mosque can be reached by a five minutes walk.

Lovely little gem of a hotel

Me and my husband visited for a short three night break in November 2012 after visiting family nearby. Having stayed in Istanbul five times, this hotel was by far the best we have stayed in. It was a little tricky to find as its situated in the narrow, winding back streets of Sultanahmet but once you get your bearings its easy. The reception staff will mark the hotel on a map which is handy to take out with you. The hotel is on a steep hill and you have to climb another steep hill to get to the shops/ tourist area so i would not advise this for those with young children or wheelchair users. The staff are extremely welcoming and always happy to help. The rooms and hotel overall were very clean and comfortable. Rooms come equipped with bathrobes, clean towels daily, tea & coffee facilities and are decorated in authentic turkish style with a modern twist. Upon arrival we received complimentary wine and a fruit basket. Downstairs in the lobby there are tea/coffee making facilities, water, biscuits and cake at no exta charge 24/7, great after a long day sightseeing. Breakfast was plentiful, the usual turkish breakfast - cold meats, cheese, breads, yoghurts, jams and freshly made omlettes/eggs to order. It was really nice to stay somewhere where they were not pushing you to buy food & drink in the hotel at ridiculous prices to make money which most hotels do. Another bonus was the free wifi internet access, if you do not take a laptop with you there is a guest pc to use in the reception area, again at no extra charge. Overall a lovely hotel, great value for money with no surprise extra charges upon arrival! will definitley be returning in the near future.

A wonderful 4 days in Istanbuk

We have just spent 4 excellent nights at the Garden House Hotel. We would unhesitatingly recommend this hotel to anybody visiting Istanbul. It is in a perfectl location, only a few minutes walk from the principal sights. The rooms are attractive, very clean and extremely comfortable - and exceptionally good value for money. It was quite hot during our stay, and we appreciated the very effective air-conditioning.There is a beautiful garden/outside eating area, which is a haven of peace in this busy city. The buffet breakfast (included in the room price) is excellent, with lots of fresh fruit as well as other local and international offerings. There were also lots of those 'little touches' that make the difference between a nice stay stay and a really memorable one. These included a complimentary half-bottle of wine, a basket of fresh fruit and bottled water in the room, free water and Turkish pastries throughout the day. However, the thing that impressed us most was the friendliness and helpfulness of all the staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them, and the Guest Relationship Manager was particularly helpful - he spent time with us to help us plan our visit, suggesting a whole range of things to see and places to eat. And best of all, he then arranged all the reservations and transport when we asked for it! We hope to be able to visit Istanbul again soon, and will certainly stay at the Garden House! Recommended

Excellent hotel, really well placed for looking around the city whilst still being protected from too much noise and bustle. Staff genuine, friendly. Clean and lovely rooms. Only down side is that it doesnt have any real view, but overall a great base for sightseeing.
