Old and tired by the lake

This hotel is an awful hotel, due to its taped carpets, out of order lift, what looks like fire damage to a large portion of the building and it’s general flaky paint exterior. Whilst the hotel bed was comfortable, the shower was little more than a trickle and the comfort features within the room were sparse.

Seen better days?

Pros: The lakes and wildlife
Cons: General updating of room facilities, balcony furniture in good weather, general external clean up.
Location: The Cunning Man pub nearby does good food if you don't fancy the hotel meals
Maybe it was the time of year but this hotel, new though it seems is a little run down. A part build (or demolished) wing doesn't help the first impressions and its the first hotel I've stayed in for about 5 years where the TV was not flat and had no more than 4 snowy channels. The up side is that this is a really good location, between the M4 and Reading, yet feeling like the middle of nowhere. For wildfowl lovers its great, the lakes surrounding attracted the bird, we had a grebe fishing within 2 meters of our balcony. Inside the rooms were large, comfortable and clean and except for the antique TV, well equipped. Breakfast was individually prepared and well done, the evening meals were basic fare. If you want somewhere to stop off at, or stay for work this is a suitable choice, I don't think I'd spend more than a few days though myself. Having said that I would stay again if only for the wildfowl and the surroundings.
