Excellent location

A pleasant, clean, well-presented hotel, with helpful staff, and in an excellent location: only a short walk from the railway station but in a central position, next to the river. Although it's close to the centre, it is fairly quiet as it's not immediately surrounded by bars - these are mostly just a few minutes walk to the other side of the river. It's not quirky or boutique, but I was travelling to see family and not on a romantic break. As a woman travelling alone, I would add that the street on which the hotel stands is quiet in the evening as it has mostly offices. I felt safe to walk there after dark, but might have felt less comfortable had it been late at night.

Had to change rooms

Pros: Breakfast staff were good
Cons: Outrageous bar prices
Heating not working, wash hand basin overflowing, had to move to another ‘superior’ room at increased rate

Pleasant stay

Pros: clean, central, fully accessible to city centre
Cons: nothing
Overnight stay to celebrate our daughters birthday. left it for a Sunday so we didn't have to take out a mortgage to stay in York on a Saturday night! great deal at £70 for the night, we were upgraded on arrival to a water front view. Modern very clean room, spacious. lovely staff on arrival. Blue badge parking just at the front door!

Issues resolved

Pros: Our coach was able to park outside. Central position.
Cons: The breakfast. Excuses that they serve a great variety on the buffet does not make up for poor quality.
Location: Keeping to main roads was decent enough but to access some restaurants it was necessary to negotiate very poorly lit areas and stairs.
Room small but adequate for short stay. Very cold and took visit on second night by duty manager to resolve. Fellow travellers also experienced freezing cold rooms at night. No extra blankets provided as standard although available on request. Conflicting versions as to how room heating was managed, Hot breakfast costing GBP10 was cold and fresh fruit going off, full refund given. Also made to pay before entering dining room. Unable to organise refund on my credit card. Hot beverages at breakfast from machines and basic. Some towels left for re-use not folded (reason health hazard!) so how do they make the bed and fold some towels? Only duvet smoothed the bottom sheet was left as I had slept on it, creased. Duvet was hardly more than a sheet, few feathers and all in lumps. Hotel overpriced. Front of house staff all but one friendly and helpful.

Please accept my apologies for the problems you experienced with operating the heating; I appreciate it can be a little complicated at times. I am surprised to hear you questioned the freshness of the fruit as there is a very high turnover of the product and new supplies are delivered daily but the team would have been happy to address any problems you brought to their attention. With regards to the towels, the hotel operates a Responsible Business policy whereby towels are not refreshed automatically as part of the Save Water campaign. Again, we would have been happy to deliver fresh towels on request. I hope this goes some way to explaining the situation.

Fab location on the river

We stayed here for 1 night in September for a special birthday. The staff were fantastic and even left a birthday card and treats in the room. Large choice at breakfast and the staff there couldn't do enough for you. Brilliant location for exploring York, right on the river and a few minutes walk from the train station. Only downside was the loud music (assume from the bar, we were on second floor) which went on until late, but it's to be expected on a weekend and staying on a higher floor would probably solve this.

Good Location

Pros: The location
Hotel is in a great location for the city centre and not far to walk from the train station. Paid for a river view which was lovely. Nice clean room with fluffly white huge bath sheets which I love. Reception staff were very nice and helpful. Breakfast had a good choice but hot food was not very but then it is a buffet. Not sure if the scrambled eggs were real or powdered though? Would stay again but not entirely sure the room warranted the price we paid.

We were warmly welcomed. We were given a room with a river view which added enjoyment when dark as opposite bank and river cruises were all lit up and you felt part of the scene. The staff were really obliging and informative about York, which is a few minutes to all the historic attractions. Friends who joined us for the day Were able to use hotel car parking facilities. The breakfast food was very very fresh and hot and well presented.

Excellent location with stunning views

We visited York by train for an overnight stay to view the Flying Scotsman. The Hotel is conveniently close to the station and the National Railway Museum. Our room was very hi-tech with smart TV, USB and hdmi sockets and programmable multi-colour lights around the headboard. Everywhere was clean and in top decorative order. The view across the river to the Minster was fantastic from the 7th floor. Breakfast provided a large choice of tasty dishes and we enjoyed our evening meal in the bar. The Staff were particularly friendly and helpful. We recommend this hotel and would use it again if we visit York.
