Entering the hotel through a throng of smokers on the doorstep isn't nice. The hall of mirrors in the lobby is exceptionally disorientating. Finding signage for reception and the lift etc is very difficult due to that. Check in was friendly and efficient. Management need to attend to many things that are wrong here though. Details are incorrect on the website for the car park. The website and other online presence gives the impression the use of the pool is free. It Isn't. They give you a slip of paper on check in which tells you there's a £4 per person charge to use it! That spoilt our plans and enjoyment to be quite Frank. The room had many flaws, perhaps too many to mention. On arrival we did note the window was open. We closed this as we went out for the afternoon. On our return the was a strong smell of paint in the room... Perhaps why the window open! The room needed total overhaul as the furniture was broken, mismatched and ill fitting for the small room. There was old broken plaster on the bathroom floor around the corridors and in our room. Beautiful building that needs sympathetic restoration.

This hotel is not as it is shown on the website. Our room had what appeared to be faeces smeared on the carpet in the bedroom area. The spare towels had been stored in the wardrobe which smelt of damp and made the towels also smell of it. The curtains did not fully close due to the curtain rail being broken. There was no opening window in the room which made it far too hot. There were no biscuits on the tea tray and the tea bags were cheap & tasted funny. The room had a level of dust on each of the surfaces. The bed was slanted meaning you slept on an angle. The breakfast was not great either. The food was only kept warm by overhead heating which was far too hot to be able to get to the food at the back. The bacon and sausages were cheap. The fried eggs were over cooked and covered in grease. The fresh orange had been watered down that much it tasted of thin diluted orange. I reported all these issues when I was checking out and the staff member just shrugged his shoulders at me. I was not given any apologies or any refund.

disappointing hotel

Pros: sea view from window
Cons: all hotel needs a good makeover
Location: good position for town & beach
hotel needs a good overhaul- décor very poor throughout the hotel-tea &coffee in room very cheap blend & short in supply-we paid good money for a poor hotel--breakfast was terrible, again tea & coffee was not drinkable! definitely wont stay here again!!

Good location

The hotel was okay, it was clean and in the heart of Scarborough, close to the beach and to the town center. The seagulls were noisy, to be expected I suppose for a seaside resort. The real disappointment was the inefficiency of the breakfast staff. The reception staff and house-keepers were very good.
